30 augustus 2019 - Rotterdam, Nederland

COMFORTABLE LIFE IN THE NEW HOUSE

“I can now happily say to you that the life of my bother Innocent and I have really transformed for the better due to the coming of this house.  The house is providing us with enough space to sleep on and enough light to do our studies because of the good windows.  I can see myself doing very well at school in the near future because of the good atmosphere that I am enjoying in this good shelter. Honestly, I and my brother Innocent are regarding this beautiful house as our refuge since the demise of our both parents.  We never had a dream of having sleeping in this house, the house that makes us to forget that we are orphans.  The only worry I have is who is going to pay school fees for me when selected to secondary school after passing my primary school leaving certificate examination. When I look the status of my aunt, I do not think that she will manage to bear the cost of school fees.”, Evance Jackson explained.  He is now 15 years old and comes from Kummano village in traditional authority kalonga in Salima district. He is now in grade 8 while his brother Innocent is now 8 years and is in grade 2. They are both doing very well at school and they are hoping to reach up to university level if funds permit.

They appreciated Habitat for Humanity and the global volunteers for taking them from destitute to better place where people in the village can recognize their presence.  Many people from the village are admiring the beauty of their house. They said that they are feeling very secured in the house. “when we lost our both parents, our hope was lost too and we did not had that thinking of being lifted up by some unknown people like Habitat for Humanity and the white people.  We felt much unsecured in the old house but we had no option but to put ourselves in that so called bed seater house which was leaking heavily when it rains. But now, all these problems are stories of the past and we are like in heaven though we are here on earth. We are sweeming in the river of joy each and everyday when we see this beautiful house of ours”, explained Evance.

Aunt to Evance and innocent, Anazi Gama, said that she is very grateful for the gift of the house that was built for the two boys. She continued by saying that when the mother of these two boys died, she was very worried about how she could take a good care of the children in her small house considering that she had already a big family. The little she will be getting from the piecework, will directly be used to support the kids in terms of clothing and food.  “Let me thank habitat for humanity and the white people for providing a shelter for the boys. The house has really improved our living standards. The kids are doing very well at school but the burrier will be when they are selected to secondary school because I will not manage to pay them school fees because of the level of my earnings”, she explaining.

Their hygiene life have also improved because of the semidetached bathroom and VIP latrine. Anazi said that previously they used to bath during night because their bathroom was not in good condition but with the coming of this new bathroom they can have shower any time they want.

The family is currently enjoying the good atmosphere of the house.

Fantastisch om dit te lezen. Nu weet je écht dat elke druppel op de gloeiende plaat er eentje is die het verschil kan maken! Geweldig om te zien en te lezen. Hopelijk komt er een oplossing voor hun schoolgeld.
